The world famous La Casona de Laly in Escazu

(qCOSTARICA) The famous restaurant La Casona de Laly in downtown Escazu has been shut down by health officials.

The La Casona de Laly in Escazy is one of three restaurants, the others are located in Santa Ana *by the Cruz Roja) and the other in San Pedro, by the rotonda La Bandera.

At the centre of Escazu, La Casona is a much-loved restaurant-tavern-pub specializing in Tico (Costa Rican) food. Locals and expats alike pack the joint for cheap, but great food and ice-cold beer.

Although the Santa Ana and San Pedro locations try, they cannot recreate the charm in Escazu that has become world-famous, featured in many travel reports as a “place to visit”.

“Authentic Costa Rica. Fare!”, read the review on Trip Advisor New Zealand iN February of this year. “The place is rustic and generally busy. It provide a great opportunity to be with Middle class Costa Ricans as opposed to the wealthy that frequent fancier restaurants. I always enjoy eating here. Do try it”.

Alas,maybe no more.

The restaurant has 20 days to meet the requirements before they can re-open, which seems a bit of a stretch given that some of the modifications are to the obsolete structure itself, according to the restaurants management.
