Making line is what happens when the health service, telephone, banking, insurance, etc is monopolized.
Perhaps, the worst is the lines at the EBAIS – Equipos Básicos de Atención Integral en Salud – or local clinic.
Though there has been some improvement in sectors, such as:
- Telephony. Remember the long lines at the ICE?)
- Banking. There seems to be a branch now at every corner and open longer hours, including Sundays. Who can remember the long lines at the Banco Nacional in downtown San Jose?
- INS. Every December lines were a mile long at INS offices or authorized agents to pay the Marchamo.
What hasn’t changed are the lines at public health services. In the photo above published on Twitter by Mario Redondo, people make line to get an appointment. “Just as they do, thousands of others across the country get up early, often without success to obtain an appointment,” writes Redondo.
