Nova Cinemas, the film division of the Corporación Repretel, will open its second cinema complex, but outside of Costa Rica. Slated to open by the middle of 2015, the chain will debut its seven screen complex in the Atrio Mall, in Panama City, Panama.
The complex will seat 1.100. Unlike the Nova Cinema complex in the Avenida Escazú, in Escazú, the Panama complex will not have an IMAX format. Repetrel general business manager, Gustavo Saénz, says the company will develop its own large screen format.
“Panama is a very attractive market in the film industry”, said Saénz.
With respect to Costa Rica, Saénz said the company is still evaluating more locations. “We hope to soon be able to publicize our expansion plans in the country”, said Saénz.
Meanwhile, competitors, Cinemark, CCM Cinemas and Cinepolis, have opened new screens in the past year, including in Lincoln Square and Paseo Metrópoli in Cartago.
Cinemark has also committed to an eight-screen complex in the new mall under construction in Alajuela, City Mall. See: City Mall Alajuela Will Be The Biggest in Costa Rica And Central America
