The labour conflicts headed by construction workers and teachers continue, despite election of the new President of Panama.

The workers are demanding an increase of 80 percent on the current monthly salary, US$586, at a rate of 20 percent annually until 2017, limit of validity of the new collective agreement to be signed after the conclusion of the negotiations.

But the Panamanian Chamber of Construction (CAPAC) considers the request is exaggerated, and although its offer has been increasing from less than 10 to 25 percent, it does not satisfy the constructors´ aspirations.

Meanwhile, 16 guilds of the National Union of Educators of Panama announced today they will make a parenthesis in their marches and closures of streets until next Monday to avoid interfering in the elections on Sunday.
