Luis Guillermo Solís awoke Friday morning to congrats on his 56th birthday and to prepare to receive from the Tribunal Supremos de Elecciones (TSE) his credentials as the country’s next president.

Thus, between birthday celebration, Solís, who was seen a long shot coming into the 2014 presidential elections, received the certification from the elections tribunal to govern the country for the next four years, starting on May 8th.

“He represents a symbol of aspirations that Costa Ricans have confided in”, were the words of TSE president, Luis Antonio Sobrado.

“El Profe” (the Professor), as he is known to many students who sat in on his classes, recalled another day that was just as emotional for him, the day he received his accreditation as professor at the Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR) where he said, he was granted the opportunity to educate generations, and now is given the possibility of “a much harder task” in steering the direction of the country.
