Ruta 27 will be Pacific bound only on and San Jose bound only on
Ministry of Transport will apply “reversible lanes” on the Ruta 27 to move traffic to and from the Pacific coast.

QCOSTARICA – Semana Santa is upon us and that means many will head for the beaches and mountains during the holiday week starting this Saturday, though the only legal holiday days are Thursday (March 24) and Friday (March 25).

To ensure a smooth exodus to the Pacific coast, the Policia de Transito (traffic Police) announced increased controls on the major highways, in particular the Ruta 27 (San Jose – Caldera) and ‘reversible lanes’ on certain days, between Pozon (turn off to Jaco) and Cuidad Colon (Santa Ana).

On March 19 (Saturday) and March 24 (Thursday), the Ruta 27 will be traffic only to the Pacific coast (San Jose to Caldera) between 6:00am and 1:00pm. That means traffic to San Jose will be closed.

On March 26 (Saturday) and March 27 (Sunday), the Ruta 27 will be traffic only to San Jose from 1:00pm to 8:00pm. That means traffic to the Pacific coast will be closed.

The Policia de Transito also recommends a top speed limit of 60 km/h and to respect all temporary signage and directions of traffic officials.

For more information on roads conditions and/or closures call the Control Centre at 2588-4040. Calls can also be made to the Traffic Division at 2523-3300 extensions of 1021 to 1029.

Or visit the Ministry of Transport – MOPT website, the “Estado de Rutas” page where road conditions are detailed, or the MOPT Facebook page.
