Riteve will compare the mileage from the last inspection to determine if there is anomaly in the odomoter, resulting in a “grave” or failed inspection

QCOSTARICA – Vehicles with an altered odometer will no pass the vehicular inspection (Riteve) starting this month..

The new regulation established in the Riteve manual, published last year, is based on a proposal by the Costa Rican Automotive Chamber (Cámara Costarricense Automotriz).

The objective is to remove from circulation those vehicles that have had their mileage rolled back.

According to Jose Carballo, president of the automotive chamber, the practice of turning back the mileage on a vehicle will no longer be tolerated, becoming a serious fault “grave” and there will be an investigation.

One or more “grave” on an inspection results in a fail. Although one or more non-serious or “leve” will result in the vehicle passing the inspection, the owner should address the problem before it becomes serious.

To determine is a vehicle has had its mileage rolled back, Riteve compares the vehicle’s mileage to the last inspection.
