A study by the National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur) reveals that year-end reservations in the hospitality sector are already at 60%.

The study takes in the response of 134 logding establishments in the regions of Guanacaste, Puntarenas, Monteverde, Central and South Pacific, Caribbean, the Northern Plains and the Central Valley.

According to the results, the expectations is that overall hotel occupancy will reach 78%.

The areas of the Central Pacific is expected to see higher occupancies, about 87%, while in the Central Valley the projection is about 72%.

Beach hotels are expected to do best during Costa Rica;s high season that is getting underway, a time when demand for tourism services from foreigners is at its peak. The tourism industry expects national tourism to be good this year.

Canatur says that the increased demand for the Pacific region is due to better road conditions, which facilitates the movement of tourists.

The tourism chamber data shows that one star hotels and those with under 200 rooms are reporting the most optomistic projections up to 93%. Five star hotels, however are projecting a 76% occupancy, and hotels with more than 200 rooms, are expecting a occupancy high of only 56%.
