QCOSTARICA – Back in 2013, Costa Rican men’s national futbol (soccer) sports took a hit during the “partido de la nieve” (snow match) between the United States and Costa Rica that never should have taken place due to weather conditions.

Fans still remember the disrespect felt during that game.

Fast forward almost 11 years later, a comparable incident occurred in Costa Rica, this time in the boxing match between Costa Rica’s Yokasta Valle against American Seniesa Estrada for world titles.

Valle was defeated in a tight decision, and to add insult to injury, Estrada headbutted her in the first round.

Once more, Costa Ricans felt a blow to their pride, and many are eager for a rematch with Seniesa.

A rematch (revancha) scenario may come to fruition thanks to the Yokasta team’s efforts, as the National Stadium has already been secured for July 13, when Yokasta envisions competing in front of 50,000 home fans, creating a hostile environment for her American opponent given the perceived injustice in their previous encounter.
Should the rematch materialize, it would be a historic event in the world of sports, as it could become the most attended women’s boxing fight in history, a record currently held by the fight between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano, which attracted more than 19,000 people to Madison Square Garden in 2022.
Companies and commerce already see this fight as a driving force for the economy due to the blow it would give due to its visibility in the media and more.
