The presidential candidate for the  Partido Liberacion Nacional (PLN), Johnny Araya admitted rising unemployment, poverty, and inequality since the party took office* until today Costa Rica.

During a visit to the county or municipality of Santa Cruz, northwestern province of Guanacaste, the candidate to win the elections of February 2 acknowledged the mistakes made by the governments of that political group in this Central American country from 2006 to date.

The PLN is a party that has made mistakes in this and other governments. Not everything we’ve done it is best, he said in a public intervention of less than 15 minutes.

“Despite the progress that has taken our country, we still have very high levels of poverty and Guanacaste is a territory that confirms this concern. There are unemployment, poverty has stagnated and inequality has grown,” he agreed, cited by newspaper La Nacion.

The candidate took the opportunity to reiterate his promise of change for the nation, from the reactivation of productive activities, before an eventual victory in elections next month.

An opinion poll conducted from 11 to 29 November by consultant UNIMER showed that Araya will only dispute the first position in the election with the candidate for the Frente Amplio, José María Villalta.

According to that study, the representative of PLN has 17.4 percent support, while Villalta accumulates 15.7 percent.
