As of Wednesday, the fines went into effect against drivers who crash against the trail level crossings (aguas in Spanish) and impede rail crossings.

The fine for crashing or damaging the rail way crossing is ¢215,000 colones, the fine for obstructing the train is ¢107,000 colones.

In addition, the above fines come with six points on the drivers license.
