QCOSTARICA – Grupo Extra announced on Wednesday that they will be shutting down operations as of today, Thursday, June 1, 2023. This comes after 45 years of being in operation. The Gómez Quesada family, owners of the company, made the announcement through an official press release.

After 45 years of keeping people informed, Grupo Extra sadly announced its closure due to situations beyond its control leading to the end of the self-proclaimed ‘not sold newspaper in Costa Rica” print newspaper Diario Extra, its digital channel Extra Digital, Radio América, and Extra television.

“After 45 years of transmitting truthful information nationally and internationally and having managed to become the voice of the people! Grupo Extra regrets to inform you of the closure of its operations. According to a statement, the closure is due to various situations.

“We came to our end, with our heads held high that we fought to the end, but at the same time with sadness and concern for the future of Costa Rican democracy. Today the Grupo Extra and the Gómez family do not lose, today Costa Rica loses a voice that fights in favor of democracy,” stated the Gómez Quesada family.
