QCOSTARICA – Is there a gang war brewing in Santa Ana, in Pozos to be exact?  The hit (murder) on two Colombians over the weekend, and the hit on another two weeks ago in front of a restaurant, across from the Masxmenos, according to authorities may be related.

It was Saturday night, around 8:00pm when neighbours hear the shots in Calle La Cubilla, Pozos de Santa Ana, when Iván David López Grisales, 29, and Juan Alberto Palacios Berríos, 32, both Colombians, were gunned down as they arrived in their home.

Both men had a criminal record: Lopez had previous convictions for kidnapping, murder and robbery; while Palacios for aggravated robbery.

After the shooting, neighbours told police they heard screeching tires and a vehicle speeding off, leading authorities to believe the hitman or hitmen were waiting for the two to return home.

The Organismo de Investigacion Judicial (OIJ) presume the motive behind the assassination is revenge and linked to drug trafficking.

The Judicial agents theorize the two murdered men may have been the shooters in the hit last in two murders, also in Pozos, of gypsy cab driver José Antonio Villalobos Delgado, alias “Pollo Triste”, and  Diego Rivera Alonso Morales, known as “McArthur”, who was gunned down in a car wash, both Colombians.

This is all happening in one of the Greater Metropolitan Area’s posh neighbourhood and where many foreigners, including Americans and Canadians live, and less than a kilometre from the upscale community of Lindora and Villa Real.

Residents of Pozos are demanding more police presence given that there is rumooured that at least two more people are on the hit list.
