COSTA RICA NEWS – Some 3.500 police officials will be deployed in San José for the game against Holland to today, while the Cruz Roja (Red Cross) will maintain a yellow alert for the entire country.
The director of the Fuerza Publica (police), Juan José Andrade, said that fans will not be permitted to use the Fuente de la Hispaninad bridge for celebrations.
Andrade said that police officials will be posted at “strategic” points in San Pedro and Paseo Colón, as part of a plan in coordination with the Red Cross and the 911 emergency service.
The director explained that the prohibition of access to the bridge is part of a safety plan and that police operations will start at 10:00am. Game time is 2:00pm Costa Rica time (UTC-6).
Domestic violence is of primary concern by authorities. Last week, more than 400 calls of domestic violence were received by 911 following the game with Greece.
