Costa Rica’s Movistar says it intends to launch the 4G LTE service in the first half of the year.

logo_movistar_alta_3Movistar says it has now more than 1 million subscribers, a milestone for ther Spanish operator.

Regarding its customer base, Movistar claimed that 85% of its subscribers use mobile broadband services, whilst 60% use a smartphone.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Movistar follows on the heels of Costa Rican incumbent and former monopolist Grupo Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (Grupo ICE), which offers telecoms services under the ‘Kolbi’ moniker and launched its LTE offering in November last year.
