TODAY NICARAGUA – It has been announced that from January 2016 eggs marketed in the country must have a label with information indicating the area of the country and farm which it comes from.

The Association of Small and Medium Poultry Producers of Nicaragua (Pequeños y Medianos Productores Avícolas de Nicaragua -Apemepan), explained that “… the measure is based on Resolution No. 14-10 issued by the IPSA 2015 and published in the Official Newspaper, La Gaceta.”

The director of Apemepan explained that one purpose of the measure is to minimize egg smuggling and foster competitiveness among producing farms in the country.

Felix Rosales, president of the union said in an article on Elnuevodiario.com.ni that “… ‘The six-digit code is given by the Institute for Protection and Animal Health (IPSA), the numbers define the origin, ie the country, and department number of the farm where this egg comes from.'”
