Last May, U.S. President Barack Obama made a personal appearance in Costa Rica. The visit on May 3, 2013, during his 22 hours in the country, Obama held short meetings with the presidents of the region and attended the Sistema de la Integración Centroamericana (SICA) conference.
Obama will not be personally attending the inauguration of president-elect Luis Guillermo Solís on Thursday (May 8), but sending a three person delegation, headed by Honourable Gina McCarthy, Administrator, Environmental Protection Agency.
Members of the Presidential Delegation are: Gonzalo R. Gallegos, United States Chargé d’Affaires, a.i., to the Republic of Costa Rica Department of State; and Francisco Palmieri, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Central America and the Caribbean
