The Observatorio Vulcanologico y Sismologico de Costa Rica (OVSICORI) reported the Volcan Poas had a major eruption this Monday morning, at 5:40 am local time.

The colossus spewed out a column of gas some 2,000 meters above the crater (4,708 meters – 15.4442 feet – above sea level), during a 5 minute event.

The OVSICORI says it was a hydrothermal eruption.

The Poas had a similar eruption last Sunday night, at 9:00 pm, September 22, forcing the closure of the park surrouding the volcano for most of the week.
