QCOSTARICA – The Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ) confirmed the death of Romanian national Costel Comana, whose body was found in the lavatory of an Avianca flight arriving in Costa Rica, as by asphyxia by hanging.

Following the news, it was learned that Comana was a railway entrepreneur in his country, who was involved in alleged corruption and bribery.

According to, Comana’s partner, Iorgu Ganea was arrested days earlier on charges of bribery of Ministry of Transport officials, in exchange for favours for their company, Regiotrans. Spynews says Regiotrans had received numerous contracts for the maintenance of unprofitable state railways routes.
