The lack of rainfall increases the aggressiveness of the bees and their attacks

So far this year, Costa Rica’s firefighters have responded to 7.500 “bee” emergencies, some 1.200 more than the same period last year.

4632384645_a2230b26d5_zAccording to experts, bees become aggressive when they cannot find food, a situation compounded by the lack of the rain this year.

The Bomberos (fire department) are recommending to call them if you find a bee hive or a swarm of bees near your home or work place.

Experts say, in the case of a bee attack, the first thing to do is remain calm and take refuge in a safe place, like indoors shutting out the bees.

Bees travel in groups of thousands. Although a bee sting can be deadly to those with allergies, virtually all bee species are non-aggressive if undisturbed and many cannot sting at all.
