(TODAY NICARAGUA) The Miss Nicaragua organization on Wednesday ruled out withdrawing its candidate from the Miss Universe contest, arguing legal reasons, despite disagreeing with the controversial comments made by Donald Trump against Mexicans.

“We clearly do not agree with what he (Trump) said, but if we don’t participate, they can sue us,” said Eduardo Guevara, spokesperson for Managua’s channel 15.

Miss Nicaragua has a contractual obligation with Miss Universe, part of the franchise agreement, according to Guevara.

The controversy around when, in his speech announcing his candidacy to the U.S. presidential race, Donald Trump said Mexicans bring drugs into the United States and the many of the Mexicans arriving are criminals.

Miss Nicaragua, Daniela Torres, continues in her preparation for the Miss Universe competition that will take place in August.

In Costa Rica, Miss Costa Rica contestant Stephanie Rostran resigned from the local competition and the Miss Costa Rica organization on Wednesday said it would bow out of the competition and local channel 7, owner of the Miss Universe franchise in that country, would not televise the event.

In Panama, Marisela Moreno, of the Miss Panama organization confirmed Panama america they will send a contestant to the Miss Universe. Moreno added that they already have the 30 contestants to participate in the Miss Panama contest, the winner representing the country at the Miss Universe.
