What happened, what was the cause of the accident involving eight vehicles on the Ruta 27 in La Sabana on Wednesday night, are questions agents of the Organismo de Investigacion Judicial (OIJ) tried to find answers to on the site inspection on Thursday.

According to the OIJ, four of the drivers involved in the crash that sent several people to hospital and resulted in the overturning of a minivan were found not to be under the influence.

According to witnesses, one of the drivers, in black Ford Mustang apparently fled the scene.

The crash occurred late Wednesday in the area of the before the overpass on the San Jose – Escazu direction of the Ruta 27. Up to eight vehicles were involved, three of which were parked card.

Although the details and circumstances are still sketchy, the westbound crash that began the chain reaction was minor, but one of the vehicles crossed the median and crashed into eastbound traffic, hitting the minivan on the side, causing it to flip.

Two of the people sent to hospital were in a delicate condition and are expected to recover, the others received cuts and bruises and taken to hospital in stable condition.
