Walmart has announced it will market high-quality Costa Rica coffee under its Great Value brand with beans from Tres Rios, Naranjo and Tarrazú.
The Great Value brand of products are offered in Walmart, Masxmenos and Pali stores across the country.
The company said the coffee will be offered in a light and dark roast in 340-gram packaging, ground and whole bean.
Walmart, though it has revealed pricing, will be facing local competitors such as Britt and Rey, among others, for a share of the local coffee market.
Pablo Vargas, executive director of Grupo Britt, explained “… We have always believed that the diversity of product offerings benefits the consumer and we have proven this over the years with the many coffee brands that have tried to enter the gourmet segment. What we have observed in the past is that with the new brands the consumption of our products has been maintained, even increasing year after year.”
The Great Value line does not consist of goods produced by Walmart but is a labeling system for items manufactured and packaged by a number of suppliers.
In addition to Great Value, Walmart also markets products under the Sabemás and Sulí brands.
